Abstract
This thesis mainly focuses on the exploration of potential factors mitigating the eruption of violent conflict in the frame of resistance against a
fascist government in a Western democracy. It tries to explain why, despite political activists who experienced a loss of significance and aroused from grass-root activism having the tendency to engage in radical and even violent actions, political violence did not occur at the Thursday-demonstrations in Austria in 2018-2019. By looking at factors that might contribute to the non-radicalization of the protestors, this thesis is hoped to contribute to the study of contentious politics.
