Abstract

Research about how 'dons' are perceived as legitimate rulers in the inner cities of Kingston Jamaica. Investigating the narratives, practices, symbols and mechanisms that affect the ability to rule while focusing on taxation/extortion in two garrisons in Kingston. Thesis is based upon qualitative research.
