Abstract

In this thesis, definitions of religion are deconstructed and problematized. It is argued that 'religion' as a concept cannot be defined. A new scholarly attitude towards definitions of religion is proposed: every scholar working with 'religion' should reflect on his or her concept of 'religion' by stating which things are included or excluded and which implications a certain definition of religion may have.
