Abstract

In this thesis, the justification given by the Dutch police for their experiments with real-time facial recognition technology (FRT) is scrutinised with regard to its validity. This justification holds that normalisation of real-time FRT in society provides grounds for experiments with and use of the technology, as it is expected to lead to societal pressure on authorities to use the technology as well.
