Utopian Fiction and Ideology: Individuality, Difference and Autonomy in Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged and Ursula K. Le Guin's The Dispossessed

Abstract

This thesis explores how two strong and relevant utopian texts, The Dispossessed by Ursula K. Le Guin and Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand, create and deal with ideology. While the anarchist ideal of Le Guin is coined by self-reflection and the potential to create more awareness for itself and others, the capitalist ideal by Rand creates strong favouring of her ideal and sets characters apart in black and white.
