Abstract
This review looks at biodegradation as a solution to plastic waste, more specifically the issues with mixed plastics. Three fungi are chosen based on their ability to breakdown more than one type of synthetic polymer. Together, these three fungal isolates should be able to degrade all the main types of plastics. The three fungi include Fusarium solani, Phanerochaete chrysosporium, and Cephalosporium sp. Furthermore, the biodegradation pathways for each main type of plastic is discussed.
