To Translate a Mockingbird. Theory and Practice of Translating Lee's Masterpiece.

Abstract

“Mockingbirds don’t do nothing but make music for us to enjoy. They don’t eat up people’s gardens, don’t nest in corncribs, they don’t do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That’s why it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.” (Lee, 98)

In this thesis, I will try to find answers to the question: What problems does one have to overcome while translating Harper Lee’s To kill a Mockingbird, and what are the possible and most desirable means to solving those problems?
