The Influence of Ethical Guidelines for AI on Developers of AI

Abstract

Artificial Intelligence is a technology that will influence the future. To initiate a more ethical approach of AI, ethical guidelines are created by various stakeholders. This research is aimed at finding out how these guidelines influence developers of AI. To gather useful data, a focus group was organized with seven students and one programmer who all had a connection to AI. The results from the focus group show different views on multiple categories that relate to the ethical guidelines for AI. A general consensus was displayed that legislation is needed before ethical guidelines will have a noteworthy influence. The discussion provides four proposals based on the results and the literature on how to start raising ethical awareness in the AI community before legislation is realized.
