Abstract

This research is revolving around the so-called "Perak Diamond": a proposed polycentric region in the Malaysian state Perak. The main goal of this research is to fill in the gap of data and evidence for the exitence of this Diamond by using urban functions as indicator for polycentricity by investigating urban areas that host urban functions that mismatch their hierarchical size are experiencing borrowed size or agglomeration shadows. Such findings will suggest there is a share of mass in population between cities and this indicates polycentricy. The outcome of this research is that there were no such urban functions found that suggest a polycentric system and it is conclused that there is a monocentric system in the Perak Diamond.
