Abstract
In this translation thesis, James Kelman’s novel Mo Said She Was Quirky is used as the source text, and is translated into Dutch. Multiple translational problems will be discussed, including the use of dialect, culture-specific elements, stream-of-consciousness, and casino jargon. These problems will be addressed using Christiane Nord’s categories of translational problem. This thesis will investigate the translational difficulties in Mo Said She Was Quirky, and will lead to conclusions about the preferred solutions for these difficulties.
