Abstract
A study showcasing the development and implementation of a game-like visualisation tool called Statistical Mage.
Using new innovative visualisation techniques based on the intuitive nature of visual metaphors to display statistical insights. Whilst relying on existing high-dimensional visualisation techniques to form the basis of the implemented game world. Statistical Mage is then evaluated/tested on intuitiveness, scalability and user efficiency. Intuitiveness is focused using a free-roam testing experience, allowing the users to have unrestricted usage of the tool to rate and display the easy use of the visual metaphors. The user efficiency is tested by a task-based test. Where the user is required to perform the same 5 tasks using the tool across 3 different sized data sets going from 3, 5 to 10 dimensions. From the results it was seen that the visual metaphors were perceived as intuitive and also increased the user efficiency for the tasks by a lot.
