Abstract

Female characters in children's literature tend to be represented in a stereotypical and passive manner. Boys get all the action, while girls remain silent onlookers. This thesis looks at the female characters in some of Roald Dahl's children's books, to find out whether they conform to the stereotype, of defy it.
