Abstract

In this report we discussed the energy deposition and spread of femtosecond laser ablation on thin gold films. We acquired both experimental and computational results and compared these to get a better grasp of the dynamics of femtosecond ablation. We found that finite-difference time domain (FDTD) in combination with a Drude model describes the process quite well, though there seems to be a missing link in the energy transfer.
