Abstract
This thesis is about the properties and applications of Gaussian periods. For square-free cyclotomic extensions K of Q the Gaussian periods give an explicit integral basis for the ring of integers of every subfield of K. Gaussian periods can also be used to give a construction of a regular p-gon with ruler and compass only where p is a Fermat prime number.
