Abstract

A wide range of apps for the various mobile platforms has emerged, but these are often platform-specific. How to systematically develop geo-enabled apps, based on HTML5 that offer different spatial functions to support professionals in their daily work and decision-making? Within this study project a framework is developed, with which to systematically develop platform-independent, geo-enabled mobile applications with HTML5, JavaScript, and CSS. The SMAD framework is built up as a quadrant including: ‘Technical architecture’, ‘Categorization of functions’, ‘Project approach’, and ‘Design and development’. The framework is put into practice and tested by performing a case study on Rwanda coffee farmers.
