Abstract
In the light of a growing interest in and importance of fostering creativity in education, this thesis investigates the subject of the development of creativity from both the theoretical and practical perspectives of scientific research, and its implications and applications in arts education. The mechanism of creativity is discussed from the domain-specific and domain-general points of view; exceptional historical examples and their present-day echoes are analysed and discussed, in an attempt to distil a possible methodology to foster and develop creativity in the field of arts education.
