Improving motivation to play a brain training game with storyline

Abstract

Intrinsic motivation can be improved with a storyline aimed at helping a main game character. In this study, a brain training game was created to teach the imagery mnemonic. The game provided a fun experience and the experimental group showed significantly higher intrinsic motivation to play the game. Participants performed a neurological test pre and post training, and the group helping the game’s main character showed a significantly larger improvement on the 15 Word test.
