Abstract

This bachelor thesis is an empirical study based on Late Modern English pauper letters. It focuses on letter writing and the labouring poor in Kent between 1795 and 1834. The linguistic features discuss punctuation, spelling variants of five frequently used words, namely opportunity, affectionate, consideration, received and family. Morpho-syntax is about preposition stranding and pied-piping and reflection of speech concerns h-dropping and h-insertion.
