Abstract

This BA thesis consists of an annotated translation accompanied by a theoretical framework. The translated text is the subchapter "Talking Animals" from the book Planet Word by J.P. Davidson. The focus of the theoretical framework is on strategies that can be used to solve translation problems in this specific source text. It covers issues and solutions on a pragmatic, cultural, linguistic and text-specific level with special attention to translating humour, ambiguities, realia and register. Works of several experts in the field, such as Andrew Chesterman, Diederik Grit and Christiane Nord, among others, were used to solve these issues.
